The King of Kings
What begins as a cozy bedtime story soon unfolds into a sweeping tale of faith, miracles, and sacrifice in The King of Kings, an animated religious epic from Mofac Studios and Angel Studios.
Narrated by Charles Dickens (voiced by Kenneth Branagh), the film centers around an intimate family moment. As Dickens shares a story with his curious son, Walter (Roman Griffin Davis), and their expressive cat, Willa (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker), his wife Catherine (Uma Thurman) looks on with warmth. But this is no ordinary tale—through young Walter’s imagination, the story takes a profound turn as he begins to walk alongside Jesus (voiced by Oscar Isaac), witnessing his miracles, trials, and ultimate sacrifice.
Based on Charles Dickens’ lesser-known short work The Life of Our Lord, The King of Kings transforms the life of Jesus into a deeply personal and accessible story for audiences of all ages. This marks the animation directorial debut of South Korean visual effects master Seong-ho Jang, best known for his groundbreaking work on Joint Security Area (2000, dir. Park Chan-wook). With its elegant animation, thoughtful writing, and an all-star voice cast that includes Mark Hamill, Ben Kingsley, Forest Whitaker, and Pierce Brosnan, the film brings biblical themes to life in a format that is both reverent and imaginative.
With its universal message of love, sacrifice, and redemption, The King of Kings has been classified by LSF as suitable for All Ages (SU). (fat)
