LSF “Self-Censorship” Program: Encouraging Ethical Responsibility in the Film Industry Without Intervention
Jakarta — The Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (Lembaga Sensor Film/LSF) has launched a groundbreaking initiative called “Sensor Mandiri”, or Self-Censorship, designed to encourage ethical self-regulation among content creators in the film industry.
Aimed at production houses, educational YouTube channels, and Over The Top (OTT) content providers with a strong track record of upholding moral standards, the program allows eligible participants to perform their own internal censorship in line with LSF guidelines.
Rather than replacing LSF’s official function, the program streamlines the approval process, helping filmmakers and distributors move faster without compromising compliance.
“Self-censorship is a gesture of trust,” said one of LSF’s commissioners. “When industry players show a sense of responsibility, we’re ready to make the administrative pathway more accessible.”
The program has received warm praise from the local film community, which sees it as a breath of fresh air offering greater creative freedom while still respecting cultural and ethical boundaries
